Why Knowledge Matters

Updated: Jun 9, 2021

The Holocaust was a tragic time period of horror and sacrifice. People like Ingrid Steppic and her family worked unbelievably hard to lessen the impact this time period inflicted. History repeats itself, and knowledge of past acts can reduce the chances of them repeating. In a 2020 survey, nearly 2/3 of 1000 people aged 18-39 didn't know 6 million Jews died in the Holocaust. Eleven percent of them think that Jews started the Holocaust. Twelve percent haven't even heard the word Holocaust.

This is why I want people to learn about Ingrid Steppic and all the other survivors. They can see that the stories are real, and they can learn about the Holocaust. If our next generations continue the long-lasting pattern of Holocaust ignorance, they lose the knowledge of how to prevent another tragedy similar to this.

I am proud to be a member of the Seattle Holocaust Center, an organization who works to enlighten people about the horrors of the Holocaust as well as the inspiring stories of those who lived through it.
