Ingrid Steppic's Life

Updated: Jun 9, 2021

Ingrid Steppic was born in 1943. An infant while her family sheltered Jews during the Holocaust, she grew up to stories and recounts of it. When Ingrid was about 1, her older sister and dad were captured, leaving Ingrid and her mom alone. This led them to some tough times, but they persevered. Ingrid ended up with an American soldier and moved to America. Later, in 1971, Ingrid was able to watch her parents be honored by Yad Vashem. In the end, her family had harbored 40 Jews from the peril of the Holocaust.

Ingrid's story inspires me for two reasons. One, her family's bravery and cunning to evade the government for so long is a great feat. Two, Ingrid understands that her and her family did something amazing and she realizes that she needs to carry on the legacy. Her devotion to spreading this story and being there for questions shows how much she really cares. I'm glad I got to interview this wonderful woman.
